A LOOK AT ANTWERP CENTRAL STATION

I had a lovely stroll through Antwerp at the weekend.

As a city Antwerp has a great mixture of old and new – including an impressive selection of shops.  I had heard some great things about the Central Station, so went to take a look. Great it most certainly is; designed in French Renaissance style and opened in 1905 with a dome ceiling reminiscent of a Cathedral.

It is without a doubt the most impressive train station I have ever seen.

Inside, I saw a really interesting exhibition about ending Female Genital Mutilation ‘My Way of Saying No’, I’ll admit that isn’t what you expect to see when you go into a train station. But I think it’s great that they would put it in such a public place, hopefully they will be able to raise awareness about this horrendous practice.

After a good few hours of walking around in the sunshine, what I really needed was to eat an ice-lolly whilst sitting in a giant hand. Naturally.
