Our initial plan was to stay somewhere cheap and cheerful for a couple of nights for a little break by the sea.

We decided on Hastings as a destination and while researching hotels came across the Hotel Zanzibar – it didn’t fall into the ‘Cheap and Cheerful’ category, but it looked so wonderful and had such fantastic reviews that we decided to go for it.

We had two nights Bed and Breakfast in the India room and Boon and I are both in complete agreement that it was worth every penny.

When we arrived at the hotel, which is smack bang on the seafront in St. Leonard’s On Sea, we were welcomed by the owner, who told us everything we needed to know about the Zanzibar and then took our bags and led us up to the top floor (three flights of stairs – no lift).

Hotel Zanzibar Garden

We settled into our room with the help of complimentary champagne and nibbles. Our room overlooked the beautiful Zanzibar garden, which was like an oasis in the mess that is St. Leonards.

India Room Hotel Zanzibar

HUGE double bed, plenty of space to walk around, large double wardrobe and chairs in the window, but it is the smaller details, little touches and attention to detail that make this room so special.

All of that is very nice, but it’s the bathroom in India that makes you go wow…

Zanzibar India Bathroom

Beautifully put together bathroom with robe and slippers, double sink, spa products, whirlpool bath (with impressive mood lighting) and a power shower that will invigorate the most tired of skulls.

There is a huge DVD collection so you can snuggle up and watch a movie in bed – which we took full advantage of.

The breakfast was out of this world.  You’re asked to make your selection the night before…

Hotel Zanzibar Breakfast

Naturally I opted for Champagne with my brekkie, along with fruit, cereal, toast, full english and juice.  We ate in the breakfast room both mornings, the view of the sea was really something. You eat a breakfast like this and you don’t need a lunch – trust me!

And on top of all that – FREE WIFI – I’m sold, I’d live there if I could.
