Cheese La Piola

oooh a new feature on VHE… how exciting!

The main reason behind my blog has always been to keep track of my shenanigans and let my family and friends know that I’m not rocking back and forth in a foreign country with a teapot in one hand and a packet of dark chocolate Hobnobs in the other, pining for England.

And so, moving forward, each Saturday,  I will bring you a rundown of my week… the good stuff anyway… I’m not going to tell you when I’m doing my ironing or putting the rubbish out!

23rd to 29th May

Friday: It took me a couple of days to recover from Stockholm.  I think I’m getting old. Anyway, I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to see the Hebe Theatre group’s version of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. It was unfortunately, not my cup of tea.  The show itself had a cast with a wide variety of acting abilities and I’m afraid the weaker members just drowned out the rest. If that wasn’t bad enough, the venue didn’t have tiered seating, so I missed a lot of the action, purely because I couldn’t see it.    We left during the intermission, which was a real shame as it is a great story and I had been really looking forward to it.

Theatre and Brunch

Sunday: Philip and I met up with both new and familiar faces for lunch with the wonderful Maxine and HIM (from Why I Am Not Skinny) we stayed for hours and hours; seriously when the company and the food is that good, why would you want to leave?!  We watched the video from Maxine’s Sky Dive and tested out her delicious new Blueberry Cheesecake (you can find the recipe on her fantastic blog)

Birthday Dinner La Piola

Tuesday: It was time to celebrate Maxine’s birthday… with dinner at La Piola.  Another lovely evening with delicious food and bubbles.  We stuck with our favourite starters of cheese, cheese and more cheese, but this time I opted for the Cannelloni with Gorgonzola and aubergine, which was incredible.  Then Tiramisu to finish it all off.  We were given personalised containers to take our leftovers home with (that HIM is so funny :-))

Hortense Brussels

Wednesday: Poor Maxine just couldn’t escape me this week, as we were together again for cocktails at Hortense.  We had a lovely catch-up with Linn from Raus Mat and Sandy from S Marks the Spots. I went for an Inka, which was a fabulous mix of Gin, Sparkling Wine and Fresh Mint, unfortunately the service wasn’t very good and it was so very dark in there,  so I won’t be rushing back.

So there you have it… my weekly round-up… I hope you enjoyed it!
