THE WALLACE STATUE, BEMERSYDE

The Wallace Statue

The grounds of the Bemersyde estate, near Melrose are a wonderful place for a walk.  Head towards the River Tweed and you’ll find yourself staring up in awe at a quite frankly MASSIVE statue of William Wallace.

Built in 1814 out of red sandstone, the statue stands at a whopping 31 feet. Doesn’t look a thing like Mel Gibson though 😉

Unfortunately you’ll need a car for this one, as there is no public transport.  There isn’t a  proper address, but you can find a little car park on the B6536, (which is signposted ‘Wallace Statue’)  from there, follow the path about 500m and you’ll find the statue.
