WHAT SHOULD I SEE WHILE I’M IN ROME?

I can’t believe I haven’t been to Rome before. I don’t know how that has happened, given my love of food and museums you would have thought I’d be a regular visitor, but no, for some reason, it just hasn’t happened.

That will be remedied today (as long as everything goes OK with my flight!), as I’ll be there for the next five days.  Hooray!

There will be lots of eating, walking (some kind of bus tour I should think) and taking pictures.  There will be the usual working (but maybe not quite so much as it’s Christmas) hopefully a bit of reading and a fancy Bookalokal dinner.

I’ll be ticking off my 20th country in the Vatican City, which seems like it’s cheating really, but I don’t make the rules and it is indeed a separate country.

So here is my list of things I MUST see while I’m there, there are only eight, which doesn’t seem like much to me and I have to keep reminding myself that all the indoor attractions will be closed on Christmas Day (many on Boxing Day as well), so I just won’t be able to pack as much in as I would like.  Things like the Spanish Steps and Tivoli Fountain are outdoors so don’t count!

  1. Vatican City
  2. Pantheon
  3. Roman Forum (Palantine Hills)
  4. Colosseum
  5. Piazza Navona
  6. Baths of Carocalla
  7. San Clemente
  8. Crypt of Capuchins

Have you been to Rome? Does that seem like a good list to you?  Anything I should add or miss?
